This plant thrives away from direct sunlight, and can grow well in indoor shaded areas, but minimal sunlight is still needed. It needs a humid and warm environment. 70°F to 80°F.  Typically, Jewel orchids should be watered around once a week. However, pot size and the amount of sunlight play into this. If the top layer of soil dries out, it's time to be watered again. Unlike other orchid species, jewel orchids grow in soil rather than in an orchid bark potting mix. Try a soil mix consisting of 50% peat moss and 50% perlite. The perlite helps to reduce the density of the media and promotes the flow of air. You can grow jewel orchids in the ground outdoors, but they only grow in USDA zones 10 and 11.
